KATTI Western region had an eventful year that saw six new Technical Training institutes being established and new Principals appointed. The new Institutes are:-
- Sabatia Technical Training Institute,
- Ugenya Technical Training Institute,
- Barabu Technical Training Institute,
- Mumias West Technical Training Institute,
- Bunyala Technical Training Institute and Okame Technical Training Institute.
We welcome the new institutions on board and look forward to their growth into centers of excellence in various disciplines. We also congratulate the Principals on their appointment and wish them success in their new assignments.
The new institutions now bring the total number of public technical training institutions in Western Region to 29.
On TVET activities, the region participated in all scheduled KATTI programs. The Regional TVET Fair was held from 8th – 10th March, 2018 hosted by Ramogi Institute of Advanced Technology (RIAT), the venue being Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground in Kisumu City. The Region was also honored to host the second National KATTI TVET Fair from 5th – 6th April, 2018.
Again, this was hosted by Ramogi Institute of Advanced Technology (RIAT) at the Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground, Kisumu. About 54 TVET institutions from the five KATTI Regions participated. During the exhibition, it was noted there was considerable improvement on the quality of innovations and exhibits. A number of projects from Western Region qualified for the 2018 National Science Week.
The event was officially opened by the Principal Secretary, State Department of Technical and Vocational Training – Dr. Kevit Desni on 5th April, 2018 closed on 6th April, 2018 by the Director TVET, Dr. Meshack Opwora.
In co-curricular activities, the Region participated in the KETTISO National Athletics Championship held at the Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology and won several medals and trophies. The region also organized a very successful Workshop at Kisumu Hotel for Front Office staff, Secretaries and Registry Clerks from member institutions.
A two-day clinic for coaches and Sports Officers from the region’s institutions was also organized at Siaya Institute of Technology. The disciplines covered included, Football, Basketball and Netball.
